Classic Siri vs Siri AI
- Classic Siri runs fixed commands: timers, calls, messages, HomeKit, settings. Every command elsewhere on this site works with it.
- Siri AI understands looser phrasing, remembers what you just said, can see what's on your screen, and can use personal context from Mail, Messages and Calendar.
- Classic commands still work when Siri AI is on — you don't need to relearn anything.
How to join the waitlist and turn it on
- Update to iOS 27 (Settings → General → Software Update).
- Go to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri and join the waitlist.
- You'll get a notification when access is ready. Then switch Siri AI on.
- Availability depends on your iPhone model, region and Siri language. See Apple's Siri support page for the current list.
New Siri AI commands
- “Hey Siri, what's on my screen?” — Siri AI reads the visible app or page and summarises it. Needs Siri AI turned on.
- “Hey Siri, add this address to his contact card” — On-screen awareness: saves an address shown in Messages to the sender's contact.
- “Hey Siri, send this photo to Mom” — Shares whatever photo is open on screen without leaving the app.
- “Hey Siri, when does Mom's flight land?” — Personal context: finds flight details from Mail or Messages and checks live status.
- “Hey Siri, what was the podcast Jamie recommended?” — Searches your messages and notes for a recommendation from a contact.
- “Hey Siri, summarize this email” — Write with Siri: produces a short summary of the open email.
- “Hey Siri, rewrite this to sound more friendly” — Write with Siri: rewrites selected text in a new tone.
- “Hey Siri, proofread what I wrote” — Write with Siri: checks spelling and grammar in the active text field.
- “Hey Siri, what is this plant?” — Camera's Siri mode: identifies what the camera is pointed at.
- “Hey Siri, translate this sign” — Camera's Siri mode: reads and translates text in view.
- “Hey Siri, search or ask: best hikes near Denver” — Search or Ask: returns a written answer with sources instead of a web link list.
- “Hey Siri, how do I turn on Wi-Fi calling?” — Product knowledge: Siri walks you through device settings step by step.
- “Hey Siri, set a timer — actually, make it 15 minutes” — Siri AI follows along when you change your mind mid-sentence.
How to switch back to classic Siri
Go to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri and turn Siri AI off. Siri goes back to classic behavior right away. Personal-context features stop using your Mail and Messages. For more on what's processed on device versus in the cloud, read Apple's Siri privacy notice.
